2.     If you don’t have insurance card

If you stay in Japan over 3 months, you must take out National Health Insurance or company health insurance. (Medical expenses will bedoubled if you don’t)

Those without a Japanese health insurance card will have to pay the full amount of your hospital charges. If you have to, you can apply to get refunded to the health insurance association or your ward office post-visit (please note that the full amount may not be refunded.) Be sure to receive a receipt and an official statement of charges before leaving the hospital.

3.     How much does it cost to see a doctor in Japan?

If you have your insurance card,

About 5,000 yen in total

The first consultation: 3,000~4,000 yen

Medicine: 1,000~2,000 yen

             

  If you don’t have your insurance card, you will pay a lot more.
